Looks like there is a bug in Excel when dealing with copy and paste.
Excel clears clipboard when you come back from another application if you left Excel after copying a cell.
Read Description below ...
Let us say you copy cell from Excel (copy cell not text from inside a cell), then when head back away from Excel to paste, did some work there, copied that work and now you come back to Excel to paste.
By now, Excel still remembers (or thinks it remembers) what you copied, so you atr trying to paste what you did and select different cell.
Once you do that, Excel actually will clears your clipboard, I am guessing it thinks that you do not need what you copied anymore, it thinks it is still your highlighted cell.
I do not think there is a fix for it, yet!
